According to court documents, Judge Krista Marx ordered 19 year-old Anthony Valdesuso held on bail and stipulated that he have no alcohol and not operate a vehicle. Valdesuso is charged with vehicular homicide after, police say, he accelerated to at least 97 in a 30 mph zone before wrecking his 2004 Ford Mustang GT. Valdesuso’s passenger, 16 year-old Allison Sheffield, suffered fatal injuries in the crash.

On Tuesday, Valdesuso turned himself in, arriving at the West Palm Beach police station with his parents shortly after 4:00 p.m. He spent the night at Palm Beach County Jail.

Police say the high rate of speed in the crash is the reason for the homicide charges. “The key to the charge would be the speed,” said Ryan Secord, West Palm Beach traffic homicide investigator. “Due to the reckless nature of it, the fact that he was doing 97 in a 30 mph zone, well over the speed limit, causes the speed to be the reason for it.”

According to officials with the Delray Beach Police Department, 47-year-old Teresa Odum was weaving in and out of traffic while driving the wrong direction on a one-way street when police stopped her. Odum told officers she was coming from a doctors appointment in Jupiter and did not know how she ended up in Delray Beach. Police say Odum refused a breathalyzer test and could not stand up for a sobriety test.

Odum’s four year-old daughter was in the backseat of her vehicle at the time. Police arrested Odum and called the child’s father in Port St. Lucie.

Odum was booked in the Palm Beach County Jail for DUI and child neglect.

According to federal prosecutors, four victims lost more than $200,000 combined as a result of the scheme. The ring operated out of Wellington and other cities, stealing the cards and then using them to make cash withdrawals or large purchases at stores and restaurants. Some victims’ identities were also stolen.

Two of the three suspects are currently in police custody and awaiting a bail hearing next Monday. The third has not yet been apprehended.

The three are facing charges of conspiracy, mail theft, and aggravated identity theft. All three suspects face a maximum prison sentence of 22 years if convicted.

According to officials with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Department, 23 year-old Tenika Rivers was arrested for strong-arm robbery and battery on a pregnant female; 23 year-old Stephanie Corbett was also arrested for “her part in the theft of $386.56 in merchandise from Macy’s.” A third assailant, 20 year-old Marjorie Casseus, of Lake Park, was arrested for retail theft, resisting merchant security, and possession of 20 grams or less of marijuana.

A fourth woman, 38 year-old Denice Caster, was arrested when she came to take custody of the women’s children after officers realized she had an outstanding warrant for her arrest.

All four women remained in custody early Thursday.

According to officials with the Georgia State Patrol, 23 year-old Henry A. Carty was charged with cocaine trafficking, speeding, obstruction of justice, felony fleeing, and other traffic charges. Police say a trooper attempted to stop Carty for speeding around 4:45 p.m. on I-75 near Old Dixie Highway. Carty drove onto an access road and a trooper used a maneuver to bring the Saturn to a stop, according to State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright.

Carty then ran across I-75 and into woods, where he was found about 20 minutes later, Wright said.

Troopers discovered 32 kilos of suspected cocaine inside Carty’s Saturn.

According to court documents, 21 year-old Tiffany Lanieri was driving with a blood alcohol content more than twice the legal limit in June of last year when she hit construction worker, Howell Chambers. The accident occurred on Fourst Hill Boulevard in Palm Springs. Chambers says he suffered 14 broken bones and will never be the same.

In court Thursday, Lanieri apologized to Chambers. Her lawyer was seeking probation, but the judge sentenced Lanieri to three years in prison.

“When you’re freedom’s taken away and you’re locked up, it makes you think,” Chambers said. “She needs that.”

According to officials with the Palm Beach Gardens Police Department, call was placed to 911 shortly before 11:30 p.m. reporting that a dog was shot and a person was struck. Medics transported a 48 year-old male to a nearby trauma center with a gunshot wound to the leg, police say.

Authorities say the dog was killed.

The incident occurred as the two men were walking their dogs in the neighborhood and the dogs began to fight. One of the owners reportedly pulled out a gun and fired at one of the dogs.

Palm Beach Gardens police continue to investigate the incident.

According to officials with the Palm Beach Police Department, Nicholas Batttelene and Alisha Johnson had narcotics and drug paraphernalia in their apartment at 264 Seminole Ave. A police searcdh of the premises uncovered syringes, marijuana pipes, burned spoons with heroin residue, and roxiconde, a generic form of the painkiller oxycodone.

According to police reports, Johnson sold $100 worth of roxicodone to a confidential informant. The drug buy took place at the apartment and will carry additional penalties because the residence is within 1.000 feet of a house of worship. Johnson allegedly told police that Battelene gets the roxicodone at a pain clinic. Authorities say Battelene filled a prescription for 180 roxicodone earlier in the day. When police conducted the search, they found 41 pills left in the bottle.

According to police reports, an alarm sounded at Sarasota County Utilities Saturday morning, signaling that power had been cut off at a sewage lift station on Jacaranda Boulevard. A team investigating the outage found that someone had cut a padlock off a fence, removed a meter box cover, and then stripped several feet of copper wire from the unit.

“We had had a theft at that location before,” said Sarasota County Utilities automation manager Fred Sherrod. “We’d had an ongoing problem over the last three years. We’ve had, so far, about 30 thefts in three years.”

The station had recently been fitted with a surveillance camera, which captured the most recent theft. The video showed a barefooted man enter the enclosure, and strip wire from the lift station control panel. When Sarasota County Deputy William Kucher watched the video he recognized the suspect as 42 year-old Jack Fredrick Knuckles. The deputy wrote in his probable cause affidavit that he “positively identified the defendant as he is well known to me and I know him by sight.”

Knuckles, who was arrested later that day, was out on bail from a previous arrest in which he was charged with stealing copper wire from a Florida Power and Light substation.

According to documents obtained at the Alchua County courthouse, 23 year-old Drew Michael Myhree entered a no contest plea to the vehicular manslaughter charge Thursday. Police say Myhree was driving under the influence of marijuana the night of October 23, 2008 when he crashed his car, killing 19 year-old Melissa L. Hein. Myrhee was arrested for DUI manslaughter in July 2009 after a warrant was issued for his arrest, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Authorities say Myhree was traveling south on Interstate 75 at the Newberry Road interchange shortly after 11:00 p.m. when the crash occurred. Officers accused Myhree of failing to yield to Hein’s 2001 Mitsubishi four-door, which was on its roof as the result of an earlier crash. Myhree’s vehicle struck the Mitsubishi on the right side.

Hein was pronounced dead at the scene. Myhree was injured and transported to Shands at the University of Florida.

Court records indicate that Myhree will receive credit for two days time served in jail.
