Drive-by shooting injures two

Posted on June 2nd, 2010 No Comments

After a fight broke out at a Riviera Beach convenience store, two were later shot.

Around 1 a.m., a Riviera Beach convenience store in the 2500 block of Old Dixie Highway became the site of an altercation, which broke up enough that two people involved, a man and a pregnant woman, were able to leave the scene. Once they reached 33rd Street and Old Dixie Highway, someone driving by them opened fire on to the pair.

The two were taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach following the incident. Neither suffered potentially fatal injuries, although both were wounded from the drive-by shooting.

Police are still searching for the culprit of the shooting, and have yet to release to the public a description of either the car used in the incident or the individuals driving the car.

A jury acquitted a Davie, Fla., police officer Tuesday of allegedly holding a gun to his pregnant fiancee’s temple during an argument. His attorney said the woman was making up the story about the gun. She did not report the alleged gun incident until several weeks after she said it occurred.

The two married 19 days after the alleged incident, authorities said, but were soon divorced. He also faces battery charges filed by his former wife and was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday, authorities said. He was arrested on charges of battery after his wife called the police claiming he threw her to the ground.

A 46-year-old man at a Palm Beach County, Fla., wedding is charged with running over two other guests after being asked to leave for angry, drunken behavior, authorities said. After yelling threats, the man drove toward two women, hitting and injuring the mother of the bride, police said. He backed up and drove forward again, authorities said, plowing into the single mother of a 7-year-old. After backing up again, police said he plowed into her for a second time, stopping with his tire still on her body.

Reports say other wedding guests overtook the vehicle and pushed it off the woman. She was airlifted to the hospital but died before arriving. The mother of the bride was taken to the hospital with injuries. Authorities say the man has been charged with second-degree murder, attempted sec0nd-degree murder and two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
