The man, two other juveniles, and an adult were convicted of the rape of a 35-year old woman at a housing project in West Palm Beach in 2007.  A 35-year old woman was said to have been sexually assaulted and her 12-year old son tortured by a group of boys.

The man was sentenced to life for the crime despite being a juvenile.  Last Wednesday, his sentence was reduced to 60 years.

The search warrants are being issued after a year-long investigation by federal officers into drug and gun possession in the county.  Together, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Boynton Beach Police Department, and the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office began working together on the investigation, which they called “Operation Smoking Gun Two” in June 2010.

Last Wednesday alone, officers made almost 100 arrests.  With the search warrants, officers were able to seize 331 guns.

In the 2009-2010 school year, Putnam County had the highest referral rate with 50 out of every 1,000 6th-12th grade students receiving referrals to the Department of Juvenile Justice.  Statewide, the referral rate was only 13 out of every 1,000 middle school and high school students.

The majority of the referrals involved incidents that occurred before school, after school, or during another time when students were not in class.

The woman says that she and her family were going back and forth between the hotel room and hotel pool all night.  The woman had left the room’s sliding glass door unlocked.

At around 10:45 p.m., the woman says she entered her room and saw the suspect holding her laptop bag and looking through her luggage.  After asking him to stop, the suspect pointed a silver and black handgun at the woman and left the hotel room.

Curtis says he did not learn of the relationship between the other firefighter and the judge until after his trial ended.  Curtis’s attorney filed a motion to overturn the DUI conviction and a new trial was ordered.

The judge removed herself from the case but neither party admitted to having a relationship.  Curtis pointed out several questionable decisions from the judge as evidence of her bias.

Now, with the DUI conviction, Curtis is fighting to have his position reinstated at the fire department.

The four employees were arrested last month.  Police believe that the workers were able to receive $97,860 in fraudulent Housing Authority benefits.

Police have charged the four workers with public assistance fraud, grand theft, white collar crime, and official misconduct.  The Housing Authority employees are being held on bails of $5,000 each.

Officers spoke with a 25-year old man living at the home.  The man admitted to police that he owned a Glock 27 and that he had been convicted on previous felony charges.  The man says he shot at the car after arriving home to find it had been broken into.

Police charged the 25-year old with unlawful possession of a firearm because of his previous felony conviction.  In addition, the man was charged with aggravated assault and firing a missile into a vehicle.

Furthermore, police reports state that the Honda was seen abruptly stopping and accelerating.  After pulling the vehicle over, officers noticed the smell of alcohol on the driver’s breath and a 4-year old in the back seat.

Police were able to get in touch with the child’s mother who told them that she and the man were in the middle of a divorce, and that she let her husband spend time with their son on Sunday for Father’s Day.

The women are suspected of stealing a 69-year old woman’s purse at a Winn-Dixie store in West Palm Beach.  The woman’s credit cards were later used at a gas station and to purchase two drills costing over $200 each at a Home Depot.  After Boynton Beach police officers went to the Home Depot store to investigate the fraud reports, they saw a car that they believed fit a description given by the 69-year old woman.

An officer pulled over the vehicle and questioned the two women.  One of the women admitted to having drugs and needles in the vehicle.  Police arrested both women and charged one with drug crimes and both with fraud and larceny.

Two hours before the call about a robbery at Denny’s, West Palm Beach police officers received reports of a stolen Dodge Stratus.  After arriving at the restaurant, the officers saw the stolen vehicle speeding east down Okeechobee away from the restaurant.

Police followed the Stratus until it lost control near Australian Avenue.  Two suspects got out of the car and took off running.  The 19-year old was found by a K-9 team and later booked at the Palm Beach County Jail.  In the car, officers recovered money, a mask, and a gun.
