A woman was arrested in Palm Beach Wednesday for driving under the influence on Interstate 75.

According to officials with the Florida Highway Patrol, trooper Jeff Rongish found 23 year-old Brittney Locke parked on the side of the road near the Palm Beach Boulevard exit on the interstate Wednesday afternoon. The metal on the passenger side door of her vehicle was partially sheared off.

Rongish says Locke was having trouble keeping her eyes open when he approached the vehicle. Locke said she was heading to Naples to get money from the father of her infant, who was in a car safety seat in the rear of the vehicle, according to Rongish. Rongish administered field sobriety tests, which Locke reportedly failed.

Troopers conducted a search of Locke’s vehicle, allegedly finding a Xanax tablet, a plastic straw coated with drug residue, and a prescription bottle for ibuprofen.

Police later determined that Locke had struck a guard rail near mile marker 138, causing $750 in damage to the rail.

Locke is charged with DUI, DUI property damage, child cruelty, drug possession and drug equipment.
