After a DUI conviction from a biased judge, former West Palm Beach Fire Department Captain Rick Curtis is fighting the charge to return to his job. According to Curtis, the judge in his DUI case had an “intimate relationship” with a rival firefighter.
Curtis says he did not learn of the relationship between the other firefighter and the judge until after his trial ended. Curtis’s attorney filed a motion to overturn the DUI conviction and a new trial was ordered.
The judge removed herself from the case but neither party admitted to having a relationship. Curtis pointed out several questionable decisions from the judge as evidence of her bias.
Now, with the DUI conviction, Curtis is fighting to have his position reinstated at the fire department.
