After 30 years of fraudulent activity, a 58-year-old man was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Authorities say he made tens of millions of dollars selling false diet pills that promised effortless weight loss. When arrested in 2007 on 62 counts of fraud, he portrayed himself as a victim of an anti-diet-pill government. The government chased him for a while, but whenever he was caught, he would simply start another venture.
He dabbled in several other “miracle” products, but his diet pills reached nearly 150,000 people. The man defends himself by saying that he never stole anyone’s life savings. He said they just spent $60 on a bottle of pills.
