A 62-year-old Palm Beach Gardens man, Arnold Mullen, is charged with five counts of grand theft for embezzling $25 million from the founder of Reebok, Paul Fireman. Fireman hired Mullen in 1985 as his trusted money manager, paying him more than $800,000 per year plus bonuses. Police say Mullen confessed to most of the alleged money thefts, both from Fireman and from his charitable foundation. The embezzlement continued for about 25 years.
Fireman heard Mullen was accused of attempted fraud in a separate business deal and ordered a detailed audit. Fireman sued Mullen in January 2009. Mullen surrendered himself Wednesday to the Palm Beach County Jail.
