A West Palm Beach man threatened to burn a woman as her 2-year-old son slept in another room, authorities said. The 37-year-old poured torch fluid on her and flicked a lighter several times, saying he would set her on fire. She convinced him otherwise and took a shower, but when she stepped out, the man beat her with an electrical cable, raped her, beat her again and tried to choke her, she said.
He has been charged with sexual assault, aggravated battery, assault with a deadly weapon and kidnapping. Records show that he has been arrested four times since 1997. He was ordered held in lieu of $300,000 bail Wednesday.
